worry less with the worry less pantry!

We’re excited to kick off the semester while introducing the worry less pantry at the Table at Huffman. This newly secured space is designed to help students with gluten, peanut, and tree nut allergies, offering safe, accessible options so that everyone can dine worry-free in all our residential locations.  

Gluten is a protein found in many foods like wheat, barley, and rye. It is often added to cooking via sauces, seasonings, and flavors. Gluten is everywhere and while it is delicious to most, there are many people who cannot consume it. Celiac disease and wheat allergies are quite common and can make dining challenging as even the smallest amount or cross-contact with gluten-containing foods can trigger an autoimmune reaction.

Our worry less pantry supports students by providing foods made without gluten, tree nuts, and peanuts to address these dietary needs and create a more inclusive dining experience for all our students.

This secured space is only available to students with approved access from our campus dietitian to create a safe space for students with these severe allergies and intolerances. This allows these students to have a variety of options to choose from when it comes to dining on campus, just like the rest of the community. The items in the pantry are to be used to supplement the dining experience during a meal period, the pantry is not a grab and go market. Students can request access by contacting Rachel, the campus dietitian, directly barich-rachel@harvesttableculinary.com or by scanning the QR code outside the pantry.

Once approved, students will receive swipe access that allows entry into the pantry. With swipe access comes the responsibility of maintaining the space to keep it safe for fellow students impacted by severe allergens. This means students are responsible for not bringing in friends with unapproved access, backpacks, food, or to-go containers from the dining halls into the space while they grab something to eat. This is solely to avoid cross-contact with allergens which keeps the pantry safe. 

The worry less pantry, does not include products that have a “May Contain” statement for gluten, tree nuts, or peanuts. Allergen declarations are not managed for voluntary or unregulated statements including “May Contain” or “Processed in a Facility.”  

To reduce risk of cross-contact with allergens this space contains designated equipment that remains in the space indefinitely, to ensure our allergen friends stay safe while dining on campus.
