Dining With Celiac Disease
navigating gluten-free dining
Denison Hospitality understands how challenging it can be to eat safely outside your own kitchen when you have celiac disease. We offer several options to help accommodate our gluten-free diners. All of our menu boards flag recipes made-without-gluten, ingredients are available online, and we offer several spaces dedicated to gluten-free items. Our Worryless Pantry program is designed for students with celiac disease (and with peanut or tree-nut allergies!) and is a swipe secured space that our dietitian grants access too. This space features sealed gluten-free foods to supplement your mealtime and designated equipment like microwaves, airfyrers, and toasters to make your meal yours. Students must meet with the dietitian and be registered with accessibility resources to apply. Additionally, our amazing allgood station in The Table at Curtis is free of the top 9 allergens, including wheat, serving wholesome meals that will always be made without gluten and on separate equipment. All our spaces offer made-without-gluten alternatives like bagels, breads, waffles, and treats to complete your meals.
Purple Dot Program
In our retail spaces like Slayter and Slivys, we run our Purple Dot Program. This program helps make ordering your food safer. Once you order and have made a special request either verbally or through the Grubhub app, a trained employee will ensure your order is made with special attention to prevent cross-contact. A purple dot sticker will be added to your order indicating that our staff saw your request for dietary accommodations. Separate pick-up areas are available in Slayter. Please work with the dietitian to fully understand how to use this program safely and efficiently. We do operate open kitchens meaning gluten will be present within facilities.
Worry Less Pantry Program
You can find the worryless pantry inside the Table at Huffman, one of our residential restaurants. The pantry serves guests looking for additional offerings without gluten/wheat, peanuts or tree nuts while dining with us. After consultation with the onsite registered dietitian, students granted swipe access find a robust selection of specifically curated safe foods. The pantry also features designated equipment with 5 different fridges, 3 freezers, microwaves, an air fryer, kettle, and toaster to make your meal yours.
The accessibility resource center is here to help students who would benefit from some additional resources on campus. Use the link below to fill out the form. Set up a meeting with the dietitian before this to help streamline the process.
Connecting with our campus dietitian will give you an in-depth understanding of how to eat on campus in a way that works for you and ensure you know all of the resources available to students. The dietitian will set up an in-person or virtual appointment depending on where you live.
Our website provides information on all areas of dining and is updated regularly, so explore it! Menus are posted in real time so you know what’s cooking and can plan where you want to eat. Ingredients and nutritional information are always there right at your fingertips.
Once you are on campus, introduce yourself to the chefs and culinary team so they can support you best. The dietitian can help you initiate these connections as well.
All our locations across campus have something for you, so go exploring! The dietitian can give you a dining tour to help as well. Looking for the allgood station? Check out The Tables at Curtis.
