Denison Hospitality Embraces Sustainability
Sustainability is an essential part of our community on The Hill, which is why we’re proud to expand the Greenies program on campus.
In partnership with ReusePass, Denisonians can now take their meals to go from Slayter Market and Slivy’s when ordering via Grubhub Mobile. This borrow and return program is directly contributing to the reduction of single-use containers at Denison University, leading the path for continued sustainability efforts on campus.
During the fall semester, there were over 1,000 students who signed up for ReusePass at Denison University to help save nearly 8,000 single-use containers from going to landfills. Across all participating campuses, ReusePass has saved over 1 million single-use containers from August 2024 through December 2024.
This is essential in a community where going green is more important than ever! Since the start of the spring semester, more than 168 new users have signed onto ReusePass, joining the battle against single-use plastic.
This program, formerly exclusive to our all-you-care-to-eat restaurants, is now impacting multiple retail locations where single-use containers were common among the student population as they order online and take their food to go.
As there is no longer a need for single-use containers in our dining locations, the Denison community can still opt whether they would like to use the program or not. More than 1,500 Greenies have already been used since the start of the spring semester with a 93% return rate. This goes to show that those who choose to go green are following the simple routine of returning their Greenie to-go containers to the multiple return bins on campus.
Along with the return bins inside both The Table at Curtis and Huffman, two additional bins have been added outside Slayter Market and one inside Slivy’s. This is meant to make the whole process seamless when it comes to returning your to-go container.
While reintroducing the Greenies program on campus, the Denison Green Team has been a beacon of support in highlighting the impact this initiative makes on campus. They have helped bring this program to life through spreading the word around the community ensuring that more students and faculty are aware of the program and how to use it.
