Meal Plan FAQ

All you need to know about our meal plans and what's on campus.

What happens if I lose my Student I.D. card?

The University offers an electronic student ID that can be used at dining locations on campus. Download the GET Mobile app to use it. To replace your student I.D. card please request a replacement ID on MyDenison.

Why do meal plans for first-years have more swipes and fewer flex dollars?

We want to ensure that our first-year students are socializing and quickly finding a friend group. Having them get their meals together at the dining halls is one way we hope to build this community. Curtis and Huffman are more active sites for programming and events.

How can we track our spending to know how many swipes and flex dollars we have left?

Students can check the balance of their dining plan, including swipes and dollars, using the GET Mobile app. Additional information is available on MyDenison.

As a rising senior, I anticipate cooking my meals in my apartment. How can I do that under the new meal plan?

The senior meal plan is intended to be very flexible. You can spend your Big Red Bucks off-campus (such as at Ross’s IGA or local restaurants), and Slivy’s will also be stocked with groceries you can buy. In addition, we will bring back the ever-popular farmer’s markets so you can use your flex dollars to purchase items. We also have heard that seniors still appreciate the option to grab lunch and snacks in Slayter, Slivy’s, and the Nest, and this flexible senior meal plan allows them to do so.

Can we get more options for students with dietary restrictions or who are following a specific diet by choice?

Yes. Specific feedback is very important to see what options can be created to accommodate student needs. If you have ideas you’d like to share, please contact dining@denison.edu.

What do I do if I have severe food allergies?

As you do now, you would directly communicate with the dining team about your needs. Please email dining@denison.edu for assistance.

Do Flex Dollars roll over? What happens to my Flex Dollars and Denison Dollars at the end of the semester?

Flex Dollars not used during the Fall semester will roll to the student’s Spring semester meal plan. Unused Flex Dollars are forfeited at the end of the academic year. Unused Denison Dollars will carry over to the next semester. Provided there are no outstanding debts to the university, unspent Denison Dollars can be refunded at the end of the academic year upon written request to Student Accounts. (This happens automatically when a student graduates or withdraws from the University.) Denison Dollars cannot be refunded mid-semester.

Do swipes roll over from week to week?

Swipes will reset at the beginning of each week, meaning the first-year and sophomore/junior plans will reset every Sunday.

Do campus vending machines accept Flex Dollars?

Yes. The coolers located in King Hall, the Eisner Center, and the Mitchell Center accept Flex Dollars.

What if I'm living at the Homestead, where meals are shared and cooked family-style?

All Homesteaders regardless of class year, will be assigned the senior meal plan, allowing for maximum flexibility in purchasing groceries.

Are there student jobs available through Dining Services?

Yes! We have many jobs available with our dining team. You can email dining@denison.edu.

Is mobile ordering service available?

Denison Hospitality uses Grubhub at various campus restaurants to bring our students, faculty and staff a convenient and fast way to place orders for pickup.

Signing up for Grubhub is simple and allows you to add several payment options to your account while also directly linking you to your meal plan, allowing retail meal swipes to be used on the Grubhub app now or kiosks, (these will be coming shortly).

Follow these step-by-step instructions to activate Campus Dining in the Grubhub app!

Am I required to purchase a meal plan?

All residential students are required to be on a meal plan, and meal plans are determined based on a student’s class year.
